I first heard of Swin Cash during her time as a UConn Huskie playing for legendary coach, Geno Auriemma. During her career at UConn, Cash was a member of two national Championship teams, including the undefeated 2002 team, which many argue is the best women's team ever. Cash was the most outstanding player during the 2002 Final Four and an All-American that season. She then moved onto the WNBA and was drafted 2nd overall by the Detroit Shock, winning two WNBA championships. Cash then moved on to play for the Seattle Storm, winning a 3rd title. During her impressive WNBA career, she is a five time All-Star and two time All-Star Game MVP. Cash is one of only six women to have won an NCAA Championship, WNBA Championship, FIBA World Championship & an Olympic Gold Medal.
(I am hoping she and Liberty Head Coach Bill Laimbeer will bring a title to NY next season!)
In addition to her esteemed basketball career, Cash has a career in television broadcasting and journalism having worked for ESPN, The Huffington Post, and Stylecaster.com among others. She was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Public Service from Washington & Jefferson College.
Cash founded Swin Cash Enterprises, LLC, Cash Building Blocks, LP, an urban development company that renovates and offers affordable homes for low income families, and Cash for Kids, which helps to “motivate, educate & elevate” kids. Cash is a two time recipient of the WNBA Community Assist Award.
Somehow she found time to write the book, Humble Journey: More Precious Than Gold which "traces her road from the fateful call in 2008, when she failed to make the U.S. Olympic team a second time, to the call in 2012."
